One year is almost gone since I started to tell you more about my native country through the wine of Duchessa Lia and, even if it’s hard to accept that this year has literally flown by, it’s time to wave goodbye to this very special collaboration.
During the past months, at every sip of one of the Duchessa Lia’s wines, I literally made a trip down memory lane. Even though England is home, my family is still living in those beautiful hills with their endless vineyards. They inspired several of my grandad’s paintings and they will forever hold a special place in my heart.
The wines of LANGHE, ASTIGIANO and MONFERRATO have been part of our festive tables for decades, representing a time of joy and a tradition that still lives strongly.
While enjoying the Duchessa Lia wines I could relive the Truffle Fair of my city, the Easter Monday picnics and the summer barbecues at the mountains. Funny to think how those moments seemed to be eternal back then and now they feel like distant memories.
Just yesterday, while sipping a glass of Moscato d’Asti DOCG of Duchessa Lia, I said to Charles: “this is the taste of Christmas in Italy” and it’s so true: for us the combo pandoro/Moscato was a must for the Christmas period. This was not only reserved for Christmas but we would also pop a bottle for every moment of celebration in our family (birthdays, weddings, births and so on). Its unique taste: sweet with delicate notes of fresh fruits brings me back to some of the most precious memories in my life.
To work with such an excellent winemaker from my territory as Duchessa Lia has made me very proud: who would have thought that one day I would be an ambassador of my own region? I truly thank Duchessa Lia for this wonderful year spent together to cherish my roots and for the renewed willingness to go back.
Cheers and happy holidays!
