A Christmas high tea at The Ritz was on my bucket list for so many years and, since I have stepped onto British sole (and fell for it), it was something I really wanted to try.
This year we decided to try The Ritz Christmas high tea and bring Catherine along. We were a bit late to the party (as usual) and left the booking late so the weekends were fully booked but luckily we managed to find a spot for a Monday evening. What better way to start the week, right?
When it comes to interiors I love a traditional look: walls that ooze history, rich layers of fabrics, warm tones and decadent furniture. The Ritz London has all of that and even more, it is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Stepping inside the revolving door is like stepping into a fairytale. A majestic tree will welcome you and when the door opens into the high tea room you’re blinded by so much opulence. As Charles says, it is an acquired taste and it isn’t for everyone but it definitely is for me!
The very friendly staff will host you to a table which is beautifully prepped with bone china and silverware. Catherine loved to have her own little tea cup and drank her first sip of the Christmas blend (highly recommended). She loved it and kept warning us not to drink her tea!
The sandwiches were divine, especially the creamy salmon ones, but those were quickly consumed by Catherine and she wasn’t too keen to share. All the patisseries were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Fresh scones and mince pies followed and, as if we weren’t full enough, a slice of Christmas cake was on the menu as well.
A glass (or two) of bubbly champagne is key for an excellent high tea so we had to oblige.
The hours flew by, sipping tea, while the most talented choir delighted us with Christmas carols. Catherine made new friends, congratulated the singers and danced the night away.
She also received a cute Teddy bear from The Ritz, a lovely memory of a wonderful night.
It was such a special evening that probably will turn into a Christmas tradition. This year Harvey was too small to join but next year I’m sure he’ll be dancing too.
